Brett Rosson

President

Brett has been an avid fisherman since a very young age. The earliest photo of him holding a fish is alongside his dad is at age 5. Upon moving to Anacortes in 2001, he discovered the world of salmon fishing. In the salmon, he found an awesome blend of color, shape, and unbelievable speed and agility. Hunting these creatures became his absolute passion and he likes nothing better than to spend his time fishing in the San Juan Islands. Brett served his country for over 20 years as a US Navy pilot and rescue swimmer, retiring in 2005. He is now a commercial airline pilot and in his off time, he and his wife own and operate Highliner and R&R fishing charters.

Barry Allyn

Treasurer

Barry is a husband, a father of three children, and a passionate recreational fisherman who fishes year-round in the Puget Sound. He is a resident of Snohomish County, learning to fish while growing up along the north fork of the Stillaguamish River. When not planning his next fishing trip with family and friends, he works as a software engineer during the day. He is a member of PSA (Bellingham). The continual and unnecessary decline in salmon fishing opportunities has compelled Barry to join Fish Northwest and become an advocate for recreational anglers.

Alex Van Hine

Director

Raised in La Conner, WA, where a deep connection to the water and the region’s fisheries began early. His father, a marine canvas fabricator in Anacortes for over 25 years, helped shape Alex’s lifelong appreciation for Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. Following declines in recreational fishing opportunity and fears of misguided management practices, he became closely involved in the North of Falcon process beginning in 2019. Through that work, Alex became a staunch advocate for Marine Area 7 anglers, gaining an extensive knowledge of fishery season development, in-season management, and the modeling/estimating systems that guide salmon fisheries in Washington. As a member of the Board of Directors for Fish Northwest, Alex works to ensure that the voices of recreational anglers are represented in fisheries policy and management discussions, along with continuing the mission of preserving sustainable fishing opportunities for current and future generations of Pacific Northwest anglers

Hank Vanderhage

Director

Hank grew up in Whatcom County, Washington.  From a young age his grandfather, great uncle, father, and uncles taught him how to fish for salmon around the San Juan islands. Holidays, family gatherings, and church picnics of the 80’s and 90’s often involved grilled salmon and talk of fishing. Hank finds its unbelievable that the residents of northwest Washington are now allowed to fish for Chinook only a few days per year.  Hank is involved in Fish Northwest because he desires for his son to have the opportunity fish for salmon in Marine Area 7 as he grows up.  With this in mind, Hank advocates for the preservation of public fishing opportunities whenever possible.  Hank is an attorney and CPA and spends his free time practicing business and tax law.

Art Tachell

Director

Art is a lifetime resident of Washington State, spending over 60 yrs sport fishing in Washington, Alaska, Montana, Hawaii and Canada. He has worked in the sport fishing and boating industry in Puget Sound as the Pt. Defiance Marina Complex marina supervisor for 48 yrs (retired).

Art has worked tirelessly as an advocate for salmon conservation and angler opportunity. He is currently the president of the Gig Harbor-Tacoma PSA chapter, a member of CCA Washington, an advisor for Northwest Salmon Research, an advisor for the WDFW Puget Sound Recreational Enhancement Fund Oversight Committee (PSREFOC), and helps to advise the Puget Sound Sport Fishing Committee. He has participated in the North of Falcon (NOF) salmon season setting process for over 15 years, as well as the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC) process.
